Give thanks! | An Awesome Story | Choices | I'll be happy when...
Then there are the emails from people you know which urge you to forward the email to all of your friends or everyone in your address book. You are promised great luck and fortune if you do, and terrible tragedy if you ignore or delete the email. We all know that no luck, good or bad, will result from anything we do with those emails, yet we often send them along anyway thinking, "Why not, what's the harm?" Well, do you have trouble driving at rush hour? The reason is traffic! Do you sometimes wish a web page or graphic would load quicker? One reason for the delay is online traffic and part of that traffic is all of these email chain letters!
Of course there are some very uplifting, positive and inspirational emails being forwarded as well. Others are very amusing or provide vaulable advice. Still, there must be a better way to let our friends know about these email gems without actually emailing them in their entirety to loads of recipients.
We have a solution! This page will have a collection of email gems. They will be the best of what is circulating in cyberspace these days. Let your friends know about this page. Send them an email with a link to this page once instead of sending them the entire text of these kinds of emails. Internet traffic will be reduced and we'll all benefit from it! Here is an amusing picture making the email rounds these days. It's cute and topical. Remember that even very different types can get along.
Perspectives....
This will give you cold chills, but puts life into perspective!
At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the school's students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended.
After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question.
"Everything God does is done with perfection. Yet, my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is God's plan reflected in my son?"
The audience was stilled by the query. The father continued. "I believe," the father answered, "that when God brings a child like Shay into the world, an opportunity to realize the Divine Plan presents itself. And it comes in the way people treat that child."
Then, he told the following story: Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they will let me play?" Shay's father knew that most boys would not want him on their team. But the father understood that if his son were allowed to play it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging.
Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance from his teammates. Getting none, he took matters into his own hands and said, "We are losing by six runs, and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him up to bat in the ninth inning."
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.
At the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the outfield. Although no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base. Shay was scheduled to be the next at-bat. Would the team actually let Shay bat at this juncture and give away their chance to win the game?
Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball. However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher moved a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least be able to make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.
The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly toward Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball to the pitcher. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could easily have thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have ended the game.
Instead, the pitcher took the ball and threw it on a high arc to right field, far beyond reach of the first baseman. Everyone started yelling, "Shay, run to first. Run to first." Never in his life had Shay ever made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.
Everyone yelled "Run to second, run to second!" By the time Shay was rounding first base, the right fielder had the ball. He could have thrown the ball to the second baseman for a tag. But the right fielder understood what the pitcher's intentions had been, so he threw the ball high and far over the third baseman's head. Shay ran toward second base as the runners ahead of him deliriously circled the bases toward home.
As Shay reached second base, the opposing shortstop ran to him, turned him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third!" As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams were screaming, "Shay! Run home!" Shay ran home, stepped on home plate and was cheered as the hero, for hitting a "grand slam" and winning the game for his team.
"That day," said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of the Divine Plan into this world."
And now, a footnote to the story. We all send thousands of jokes through e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages regarding life choices, people think twice about sharing. The crude, vulgar, and sometimes the obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of decency is too often suppressed in school and the workplace.
If you are thinking about forwarding this message, you are probably thinking about which people on your address list aren't the "appropriate" ones to receive this type of message.
The person who sent this to you believes that we can all make a difference. We all have thousands of opportunities a day to help realize your God's plan. So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice: Do we pass along a spark of the Divine? Or do we pass up that opportunity, and leave the world a bit colder in the process?
You have two choices now:
1. Delete this.
2. Forward it to the people you care about.
You know the choice I made.
Now you know the choice I made, I put this here for all to see!
READ THIS AND LET IT REALLY SINK IN, THEN...
CHOOSE,
AND REMEMBER THAT EVEN IF YOU
DON'T CHOOSE, THAT IT IS STILL A CHOICE
YOU MADE!
Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is
always in a good mood and always has something
positive to say. When someone asked him how
he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better,
I would be twins!"
He was a natural motivator. If an employee was
having a bad day, Michael was there telling the
employee how to look on the positive side of the
situation.
Seeing this style really made me curious,
so one day I went up to Michael and asked him,
"I don't get it! You can't be a positive person
all of the time. How do you do it?" Michael replied,
"Each morning I wake up and say to myself! You
have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or... you can
choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a
good mood.
Each time something bad happens,
I can choose to be a victim or.... I can choose to
learn from it. I choose to learn from it.
Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose
to accept their complaining or... I can point out the
positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.
"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.
"Yes, it is," Michael said. "Life is all about choices.
When you cut away all the junk, every situation
is a choice.
You choose how you react to situations. You choose
how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a
good mood or bad mood.
The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your
life."
I reflected on what Michael said. Soon thereafter,
I left the Tower Industry to start my own business.
We lost touch, but I often thought about him when
I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.
Several years later, I heard that Michael was
involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet
from a communications tower. After 18 hours
of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Michael
was released from the hospital with rods placed in
his back. I saw Michael about six months after the
accident.
When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were
any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?" I
declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what
had gone through his mind as the accident took place.
"The first thing that went through my mind was the
well-being of my soon to be born daughter, "Michael
replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered
that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I
could choose to die. I chose to live!" " Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?"
I asked.
Michael continued, "...the paramedics were great.
They kept telling me I was going to be fine.
But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw
the expressions on the faces of the doctors and
nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read
"he's a dead man. I knew I needed to take action."
"What did you do?" I asked. "Well, there was a big
burly nurse shouting questions at me. She asked if
I was allergic to anything. "Yes, I replied." The doctors
and nurses stopped working as they waited for my
reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Gravity."
Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing to live.
Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."
Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also
because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him
that everyday we have the choice to live fully.
Attitude, after all, is everything.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow
will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of
its own." -
Matthew 6:34
Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
We convince ourselves that life will be better after we get married, have a baby, then another. Then we are frustrated that the kids aren't old enough and we'll be more content when they are. After that, we're frustrated that we have teenagers to deal with. We will certainly be happy when they are out of that stage. We tell ourselves that our life will be complete when our spouse gets his or her act together, when we get a nicer car, when we are able to go on a nice vacation or when we retire. The truth is there's no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, when? Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It's best to admit this to yourself and decide to be happy anyway. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have and treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time with ... and remember that time waits for no one.
So, stop waiting ...
Until your car or home is paid off.
Until you get a new car or home.
Until your kids leave the house.
Until you go back to school.
Until you finish school.
Until you lose 10 lbs.
Until you gain 10 lbs.
Until you get married.
Until you get a divorce.
Until you have kids.
Until you retire.
Until summer..
Until spring.
Until winter.
Until fall.
Until you die.
There is no better time than right now to be happy. Happiness is a journey, not a destination. So work like you don't need money, love like you've never been hurt, and, dance like no one's watching.
If you want to brighten someone's day, pass this on to someone special.
I just did!
